Beautiful. Barely Legal. And now an immortal bloodsucker. What could possibly go wrong?
Hailey McCawl has just turned twenty-one, dropped out of college, and returned – against her better judgment – to live with her parents and her little brother. She has absolutely no idea what to do with her life, and she’s sick of trying to figure it out.
Tonight she will unwillingly become an immortal vampire and enter into a dark new world. Nothing will ever be the same.
In the days and nights to come, Hailey will be forced to embrace her new powers, enter an arcane community of the undead, filled with intrigue, secrets and deadly politics all its own, and even fall in love.
And then there’s the handsome vampire hunter she will turn into one of her own. And in the vampire community, nothing could be worse.
I won an advance copy of this in a release party contest and I enjoyed it so much that I bought the final released product. Published by Winlock Press, by a talented and young author (only 20!).
The story is full of rich characters and is paced well, the ending was suitably vague enough to want me wanting more.
A nice take on vampire lore. Including tropes such as siring as well as some unusual tropes including the use of glasswork necklaces.
I don’t want to give away the plot, but Hailey is thrust into a life she didn’t ask for with many others interested in how she develops. What isn’t clear is who have her best interests at heart and who only have their own.
I look forward to part two.
